Show Your Youngsters The Thrill Of Growing Plants

Youngsters generally like to help until it has been taken away from them, so tell them how to garden. It could be a fun activity for them, because children have always loved playing in the dirt. Consider how exciting it will be for them, when you let them decide on the plant they want to grow. This information should give you some suggestions for making your children enthusiastic to become a budding gardener.

Whenever letting your youngsters pick their own plant, have a group that they can select from. Have some flowers or plants with bright and vivid colors, because that is what most of them will like. Zinnias and cosmos, are generally examples of bright flowers, that will probably fascinate your children. There may even be something that could be bigger than them like a sunflower plant. You also want to be sure the plants they decide do not cause allergic reactions. While their fingers usually are little, let your children help with the starting seeds. If very little else, at least allowed them to cover the seeds with dirt. In order to keep their enthusiasm high, make them record their gardening experiences in a journal. They’ll be able to use their imagination to sketch out what they believe their plants will look like. They can record when they selected and planted and when the seeds began to sprout.

Place your home garden near where your children play, so they can watch their plants growth every time they walk by. Give them a reason to keep excited about how their plant is doing. Since they like playing in the dirt anyway, let them help you get the soil ready. Maybe all they are going to do is stomp on the clumps, but that can make gardening a fun game for them. Find them a handful of tools that are their size, so they really feel like they are helping. Let their area of the garden be theirs. You can certainly assemble images so that they will know things to look for. Place everything on a notecard using the names of your children, so everyone will know they are a part of the garden.

Children like playing with water as much as playing in the dirt, so let them water their own plant. You may have to help them, or at least show them exactly how to do it, so the roots of the plants get watered. A little can that may be used for watering works best. The majority of us make blunders, so allow your children to make some mistakes with their garden. Let them generate a mess as part of the operation, but teach them that cleaning up the mess is also part of the process.

Any time you enable your children to have their own space, and let them have fun, they will see gardening as something fun to do. Let them make mistakes, and teach them the way to learn from all those mistakes.
